A old highschool friend of mine took this yesterday and posted it to his FB.
This picture was taken just outside delray WV.
Not sure exactly what kind of snake it is, but it's freaking huge he thought it might be a king cobra. If so it's about the max size for one.
It's definitely not anything native to the area.
Seriously if anyone can identify the species in the picture I posted above, please let me know.
The largest native species in North America is the Eastern Indigo Snake: Eastern indigo snake - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
And the Black Rat Snake is a close second: Pantherophis obsoletus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
But that snake looks to be well over 10 feet so that raises the possibility that it is a non-native species and I'd guess an anaconda.
It became quite trendy during the Goth period on teenagedum to own a snake as a pet, and the pet of choice for the X-treme dudes was an anaconda. But like so many irresponsible pet owners, the shine comes off and the chores get old and they just release the animals into the wild. Perhaps that is what we are seeing here.
