Well Dylematic, I kinda got the MSN Weather Gadget to change location.

I went to "C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Sidebar" and opened up the file settings.ini in Notepad. That is the settings file for the Weather Gadget. If you had your location programmed into the Microsoft Weather Gadget, your location information should be in there. The two lines you are looking for are WeatherLocation and WeatherLocationCode.

If you don't have it entered in your Weather Gadget, you can look it up here: https://weather.codes/united-states-...rica/michigan/.

Next I went to "C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Sidebar\Gadgets\MSNWeather.gadget\en-US\js" and opened in Notepad the file localizedStrings.js also in Notepad. I replaced DefaultCity with WeatherLocation and DefaultLocationCode with WeatherLocationCode. Then I saved the file.

Right-clicked on the desktop and chose 'Gadgets', and chose MSN Weather. Worked fine.

I am still using the Microsoft Weather Gadget. The other fixes on the forum seemed to help.

    Oops.

Left in the URL for the Michigan page. Of course the top-level URL for United States weather codes is: https://weather.codes/united-states-of-america/

Hope you are able to get it running.

I seem to have a permanent fix now, well running 8 days 24/7 and counting without losing connection. And no problem changing location to here in England.

Run GaBee8 fix, (#47) I found this would restore the gadget but only for 3 days before it stopped updating and I would need to rerun it.
Immediately having run that fix, use juanjotoronia date and attribute change on the config file (#48) I moved it forward + 3 years.
Having had a few false dawns before, I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but so far, so good.

Gadgets have been discontinued - Microsoft Windows

I was trying to fix mine... and I found the link that my "currency" gadget was getting its info from.
    IN C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Sidebar\Gadgets\Currency.Gadget\en-US
the gadget.xml file had a link: Gadgets have been discontinued - Microsoft Windows

which got forwarded over to the first link i posted above stating that they DISCONTINUED gadgets due to vulnerabilities.

Is it alright to upload .exe's here though? I just had it in a zip file.

EDIT: I added it in. Please give feedback so I can update it if need be. It was written in VB.net.

I found the simplest solution above all solutions mentioned here. Thanks to AndersWillhelmsson

This morning I simply changed the Date on the config.xml, to 2017, and then set the Attribute READ ONLY on the file, and it's still working ...

A way to change date on a file, is to change the date in your computer, then RE-save the file, and then set the date back again to correct date.

And to set Attribute just rightclick the file, chose Properties, and Click Read-Only, click OK.
